Need Based Admission Awards
Some University of Toronto Admission scholarships are awarded on the basis of financial need, academic merit or other special criteria. These awards may require additional documentation. University of Toronto Advance Planning for Students (UTAPS) information is used to identify Canadian citizens, permanent residents and protected persons who have financial need. If you wish to be considered for need based awards, you MUST submit an online UTAPS application.
Avie Bennett Award Program:
Awarded on the basis of academic excellence and financial need to students in an Arts and Science program, studying Humanities and/or Social Sciences on the St. George campus, the University of Toronto Scarborough and University of Toronto Mississauga or students registered in the Faculty of Music. Candidates should present a well-rounded profile of high academic ability and excellence in the arts or athletics. There are 100 awards which have a value of $5000 each and may be held in conjunction with any admission award that students may receive from their college/faculty.
Eligible candidates will demonstrate financial need and excellence in arts or athletics. To be considered, submit a UTAPS application and a letter of application outlining excellence in arts or athletics or submit a statement of financial need including a detailed budget of educational expenses and resources, and a letter of application outlining excellence in arts or athletics.Delta Tau Delta Award:
Awarded on the basis of academic merit, financial need and community involvement. Candidates must be residents of Ontario. Documents Required:
- Letter outlining your community activity and involvement
- UTAPS application
- Letter of reference in support of your community involvement
- Letter outlining your extra-curricular activities and/or community involvement
- UTAPS application
- Letter of reference in support of your application.
Fairfax Financial Award:
Awarded on the basis of academic merit, financial need and community involvement or extra-curricular activities. Candidates must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents or protected persons (recognized convention refugees).
Documents Required:
Ontario Hockey Association War Memorial Scholarship: Awarded to an applicant who is a descendent of one who has served with the Canadian forces. Documents required:
- Proof of service
- UTAPS application
John Macara, Barrister of Goderich, Scholarship: Preference given to applicants who can establish that they are the blood kin of the late Mrs. Jean Glasgow, the donor of this award. Documents required:
- a letter explaining how they are related to the late Mrs. Glasgow
Lo Family Scholarships: Awarded to students who are active as leaders, are respected and considered to be well-rounded citizens in their school and community, and have demonstrated financial need. Documents required:
- letter outlining their community activity and demonstrated leadership skills
- letter of support from their school
- UTAPS application
Nisei Students' Club Bursary: Awarded to students of Japanese-Canadian ancestry on the basis of financial need. Documents required:
- a statement confirming that you are of Japanese Canadian ancestry
- UTAPS application
